Moton Celebrates 50 Years

Smokey Robinson Shares His Perfect Playlist

Asking about my favorite songs and singers is like asking a man who loves to eat about food. If it's good, I like it all—from gospel tunes to show tunes and everything in between. When it comes to artists, the young ones of today like Alicia Keys, Joss Stone, Beyoncé, and the young guy that sings "Ordinary People" (John Legend), if you love music like I do, you have to enjoy all of this. And I tell you something else, I love country music, how can you beat Faith Hill and Tim McGraw? So I don't know what to say to you, but here is a list of some of my favorite tunes. I'd say it's more of a taste than a full meal. Sit down and enjoy the musical gumbo.

"Ordinary People" by John Legend

"Neither One of Us (Wants to Be the First to Say Goodbye)" by Gladys Knight & The Pips
I can't leave out my sister, who gives me chills every time I hear her sing this one.

"So What the Fuss" by Stevie Wonder
I can't leave out my brother, always keeping his sound new.

"What's Going On" by Marvin Gaye
Marvin's foresight saw way into the future with this song, which is as appropriate today as it was when it was originally released.

"I Believe I Can Fly" by Kenny G & Yolanda Adams
Yolanda has taken gospel music to a new level. What a beautiful rendition.

"Let's Make Love" by Faith Hill & Tim McGraw
My appreciation for country music is all about the feeling the songs. Faith and Tim capture it perfectly here on this tune.

"My World" by Smokey Robinson
The title track from my album and it's a new favorite in my show.

"Fallin'" by Smokey Robinson
The musical collaboration with my dear friend Mickey Stevenson bridges classic Motown and today's style.

"The Tracks of My Tears" by Smokey Robinson & The Miracles
It's the kind of song that touches everyone at some point of their lives.

"Cruisin'" by D'Angelo
I very much appreciate the soul of D'Angelo's version of "Cruisin'" from his first album.
