KEEPING A POSTIVE ATTITUDE AMONGST NEGATIVITY
Hey Mel,
I am an inventory control person in a service department who interacts all day with demanding sales reps. Reps call to check on inventory or status of product ordered and then get very angry if it is not in stock or ends up on backorder. I have told them I do the best I can to keep up with orders, but cannot control vendors or freight companies if product does not arrive to us in time to meet a customer's delivery date and that I feel they are blaming me. I see it in their tone of voice or the words they choose to say. The response I get is some will say they are not blaming me and they understand but are just upset about it, or others will tell me that there is something wrong with "our processes" - which to me is the same as blame. Either way, I feel they are taking it out on me for whatever reason. I try not to take this personally, but by the end of the day, sometimes I feel so bad and just want to quit. (I actually do like the duties of tracking inventory and ordering, but have a hard time dealing with so many forceful people.) How do I not let these people bother me and keep a positive attitude? Thank you,
Brenda C
